Toronto – August 7, 2024 – As part of its mission to ensure patients across Canada have access to the highest standard of medical care and nuclear medicine services, the Canadian Nuclear Isotope Council (CNIC) is proud to announce its new collaboration with the More PETs Coalition.
The More PETs Coalition is a group of engaged organizations and individuals, including doctors, patients, health charities, and nuclear medicine providers, who share the goal of ensuring that PET scans are used to their full potential within Ontario’s healthcare system.
Positron Emission Tomography (PET) scans are one of the most accurate tools available for disease detection, and are used to diagnose illnesses like cancer, epilepsy, and heart disease. These scans help doctors make informed decisions about the most effective course of treatment for patients at an early stage, providing precise results and giving patients the best chance for recovery.
In recent years, Ontario has invested in PET scan machines and streamlined the process for physicians to order PET scans. However, Ontario’s PET scan usage rates are the lowest per capita in Canada. The More PETs Coalition works with physicians, industry, and the public to increase awareness of this best-in-class technology and encourage greater PET scan usage in Ontario.
“CNIC is proud to join the More PETs Coalition to share the important message of hope with patients and physicians in Ontario and across the country,” said James Scongack, Chair of the CNIC. “Together, we will promote access to the most advanced and effective diagnostic tools, leading to better patient outcomes and positive impacts on the lives of those affected by cancer.”
In the spirit of cooperation, the More PETs Coalition will also be formally joining the CNIC as an industry partner. With this announcement, More PETs becomes the newest addition in a growing list of companies and organizations committed to expanding access to game-changing nuclear medicine procedures in Canada.
The More PETs Coalition is eager partner with CNIC to achieve our shared goals, stating, “We look forward to all that CNIC and the other members of the More PETs Coalition can accomplish together. We are thrilled to join forces with an organization so closely aligned with our mission. Together, we can ensure that doctors and patients in Ontario are aware of the life-saving power of PET scans and their availability in Ontario.”
