The CNIC Welcomes the Nuclear Industry Association of Türkiye to the Growing Contingent of International Organizations Engaging with Canada’s Isotope Sector

TORONTO, ON — January 27, 2025 –The Canadian Nuclear Isotope Council is excited to welcome the Nuclear Industry Association of Türkiye (NIATR) as its newest international member organization. The NIATR acts as the public voice of the nuclear industry in Türkiye, and works with domestic and international companies, NGOs, and government to support innovation within Türkiye’s nuclear sector.

The NIATR also works to bring its members together to ensure active communication and cooperation between the nuclear sector and the Turkish government and works with partners in academia and industry to attract global manufacturers to the Turkish market. The NIATR also has an emerging interest in the nuclear isotope sector, with the Turkish nuclear medicine sector seeing significant growth in recent years.

As a new partner organization of the CNIC, the NIATR will act as a door to further Canadian engagement with the nuclear isotope sector in Türkiye, creating new opportunities for international industry partnership and strengthening the global isotope supply chain.

In addition to their advocacy and communications work, the NIATR also hosts an annual summit, the Nuclear Power Plants Expo & Summit (NPPES), which is being hosted in Istanbul in July of 2025. The event will bring together hundreds of companies and leaders from across Türkiye and beyond for two days of networking, discussions, and keynote speeches highlighting the work of Türkiye’s nuclear sector.

“This marks a significant step forward in fostering collaboration and innovation within the nuclear isotope field, particularly in strengthening our ties with Canada. As an organization committed to advancing nuclear technologies and applications, we look forward to contributing to the association’s initiatives and working alongside esteemed members to promote the safe, efficient, and innovative use of isotopes globally. We believe this partnership will open new avenues for knowledge exchange and pave the way for impactful collaborations in the years ahead,” said Alikaan Çiftçi, Chairman of the NIATR.

“I’m pleased to welcome the Nuclear Industry Association of Türkiye (NIATR) to the CNIC as our newest international member organization. We look forward to working with them to find ways that Canada and Türkiye can work together to expand access to life-changing medical isotopes around the world,” said James Scongack, Chair of the CNIC. “Canada has been a leader in the production of isotopes for over half a century and we look forward to continuing our work with international partners to export Canadian leadership abroad and ensure Canadian-made isotopes continue to provide hope for patients and families around the world.”
