Accelerating Innovation in Nuclear Medicine at the forefront as Nuclear Promise X joins the CNIC

TORONTO – May 21, 2024 – Innovation is not just a trendy buzz word to the Canadian Nuclear Isotope Council’s (CNIC) newest member, Nuclear Promise X (NPX). Instead, it is the very foundation of all their work as they continue to distance themselves as a change leader, helping to push the nuclear industry further into the future through collaboration across utilities, vendors, and other community partners.

The CNIC and NPX have worked together on several projects in the past across the nuclear medicine and life sciences sectors. In fact, earlier this year, the two organizations collaborated with the Canadian Space Agency (CSA) to explore the feasibility of producing isotopes that could be leveraged for Deep Space Exploration applications. That project was delivered to the CSA at the end of April and both sides eagerly await potential next steps.

“Building upon the success of our past collaborations, the CNIC is excited to welcome NPX as our latest member, joining a growing movement of over 90 companies from coast to coast,” said James Scongack, Chair of the CNIC. “The team at NPX bring an energy and excitement to tackle change and innovation with profound enthusiasm and it’s exactly that type of thinking that will help solve today’s isotope sector bottlenecks and ensure equitable and affordable access to life saving cancer treatments for patients around the world.”

NPX sits at the intersection of the nuclear industry and now, life sciences, as over the past 10 years the broader nuclear industry has begun to play an enhanced role providing its expertise and irradiation services to support the global isotope supply chain.

“Innovation is key for the nuclear industry’s future and leveraging our ability and history of transforming the nuclear power production, we are able to apply the same thinking to help overcome supply chain challenges in the isotope sector,” said NPX President and CEO Bharath Nangia. “We believe in the power of nuclear energy, not only to tackle the climate crisis, but also to save lives through isotopes. We will do our part to ensure that isotope projects and operations are efficient and sustainable, by applying our innovation mindset here.”

Both the CNIC and NPX are excited to build on their past successes as partners and work across the industry to develop solutions to critical sector challenges for the benefit of patients around the world.
